A store of inspiration.

Why do people buy merchandise from gallery/museum shops? Well, some are inspired by their visit and want to take a part of the experience away with them. Others seek inspiration from great creative thinkers and artists.

The Art Gallery of New South Wales is an institution full of art, ideas and perspectives. We began to think of the store, not just as a place to buy goods, but as an inspirational space where ideas are exchanged. When designing the instore graphics, packaging and merchandising we developed ideas around the concept that ‘every purchase should be an inspired purchase’.

By using imagery from the various AGNSW collections we were able to highlight the quality and depth of those collections. At every opportunity we sought to give the customer a deeper insight and appreciation of the works.

The store was filled with inspirational quotes by leading artists, the shopping bags and packaging featured detailed information much like the extended labels within the exhibition. We wanted customers to feel like they could spend time in the space and leave feeling inspired.
